Coral Necklace 22" Red Frangia Branch Sterling Silver Clasps Beads

Coral Necklace 22" Red Frangia Branch Sterling Silver Clasps Beads

Frangia (branch) Red Coral Necklace Sterling Silver Clasps Beads

This beautiful natural and undyed coral is from the Mediterranean. Frangia (meaning branch) coral is so rare and special. It makes for such an impressive necklace. This red frangia coral has been hand strung on .018" (.46 mm) nylon coated stainless steel bead stringing wire. The longest of the branch coral measures 1-1/4" long--truly gorgeous. The ends of the necklace are finished with a 5 mm sterling silver bead, a 7/16" 5 mm cone, and sterling silver trigger clasp with a sterling silver 'eye'.  The strung coral measures 20" plus 1" each end for the bead/cone/and clasp plus 1" for the hang down on the branch coral--totaling approx 22+". This necklace is sure to get MANY compliments. The color is just so warm.

Coral is one of a few gemstones of organic origin. Coral is the skeletal remains of marine animals called coral polyps. Colonies of these tiny creatures build branching structures as they grow, gradually forming reefs and atolls. Most precious coral is found in warm waters. This deep red coral is found in the Mediterranean Sea. The oldest known findings of red coral date from the Mesopotamian civilization, i.e. from about 3000 BC. Believed to bring protection, coral was given as a gift by parents to their young children .  Mohs Hardness:  3-4.p
