Navajo Indian Money Clip Bear Claw Sterling Silver Overlay Stanley Gene

A neat money clip by Navajo Artist, Stanley Gene. He has a sterling silver overlay piece added to the money clip. In the sterling silver overlay is the design of a Bear Claw. The overall size of the money clip is 2" long by 3/4" wide.

          Overlay is created by “sweating”, or soldering, two pieces of silver together.  The top piece contains a design element which is meticulously cut out of silver.  The bottom piece is oxidized and often textured to produce a contrasting background.  They then carefully file, buff and polish to produce the fine finish on their beautiful item.

THE BEAR STORY:  Many Native American Tribes honored the spirit of the bear as a magical being, the Shaman of the animal world.  The Bear is considered a totem for healing, protection and good fortune.
