Navajo Indian Necklace Yei Multistone Inlay Sterling Silver Harold Smith

Navajo Indian Necklace Yei Multistone Inlay Sterling Silver Harold Smith

Navajo Indian Necklace Yei  Multistone Inlay Sterling Silver Harold Smith

Navajo artist and silversmith, Harold Smith, has hand made a most unusual and special Yei Necklace. He has inlay turquoise, white onyx, coral, black onyx, lapis and other stones to form this spectacular pendant.

The pendant itself (including the bail and silver dangles) is approximately 3-3/4" long and 1" wide at its widest. The chain is 25" long and has two designs in the chain. The lower part (6" on each side) is more solid. The upper part (6-1/2" on each side) is more open. This allows you to 'catch' the hook/clasp in any of the openings on the chain so that you can make the necklace longer or shorter--as your neckline dictates. Truly versatile and gorgeous. You could easily wear this over a turtleneck or sweater--or shorten it up and wear it in a v-neck blouse.

This very special necklace is sure to be a treasured part of your jewelry collection and receive MANY compliments.  Harold has stamped 'H. Smith-sterling' on the back of this gorgeous necklace.

Yei: The Yei is a slender, front facing figure that represents a supernatural being in Navajo culture, one with the power to heal. Male Yeis have round heads while the more common Female Yeis are shown with square or rectangular heads. The Yei-be-chai are side facing figures representing a line of Navajo dancers impersonating Yeis. The healing ceremony takes place in the winter months. The Yei-be-chai dance can last many days until the patient is healed.
