Zuni Indian Ring Effie Calavaza Snake Black Onyx Size 10.5 Sterling Silver

Zuni Indian Ring Effie Calavaza Snake Black Onyx Size 10.5 Sterling Silver

Zuni Indian Ring Effie C. Snake Black Onyx Sterling Silver

Zuni Artist, Effie C. (Calavaza), has created a signature 'snake' design ring. She has a large piece of black onyx and one sterling silver snake--wrapped around it. The darling snake has turquoise eyes. How neat! This is the only time you should get close enough to a snake to check out its eye color!! This is size 10-1/4 ring--suitable for men or women. The overall size of the top of the ring is 7/8" x 5/8".  The black onyx is approximately 5/8" by 3/8". Effie rarely works with black onyx. This is extra special--just a classic beauty. Everyone needs AT LEAST one Effie C. creation in their jewelry collection.

EFFIE CALAVAZA Effie Calavaza, a Zuni jewelry artist from the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico, is one of the most collected and most beloved Native American artists. But, she is also one of the bravest. Effie went all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States of America to obtain full copyright of her art work to stop copy cats from importing fake pieces of her work. Her work is in high demand world wide.

She specializes in using large gemstones (often turquoise and coral), sand casting Sterling Silver, and creating dazzling serpent (snake) deity designs with their eyes inlaid with matching gemstones.

She began silversmithing in 1956 after learning from her husband, Juan Calavaza. She is still creating incredible pieces of Sterling Silver jewelry. Her work is stamped EFFIE C. ZUNI which is the family hallmark used by Effie and her daughters. Despite many rumors, Effie is still making beautiful, unique and distinctive jewelry.
